Response codes

Certain situations need to have appropriate response codes returned to the browser. Most are pretty clear, for example if the client requests /BlahEnvironment/, and there is no loaded environment with that name, the response is going to be a 404 Not Found.

However, what should the situation be for other cases, for example if the client requests /BlahEnvironment/, it does not exist, but the server encounters an error while trying to discover this. Should the response still be a 404 or should it be a 500 Internal Server Error?

I will post more scenarios when I encounter them.
